Renewed appeal for information on callous murder of Mayo pensioner

GARDAI today renewed an appeal for information on the murder of an elderly Mayo man who was beaten, tied up and left to die fourteen years ago.

Eddie Fitzmaurice,(83), Bellaghy, Charlestown, was beaten to death in his home, but despite considerable efforts nobody has ever been charged in connection with the crime.



Gardai have described it as a "callous and brutal attack on a defenceless elderly man".



Crimestoppers is offering a reward for information leading to the identification and prosecution of those behind the attack.



Mr Fitzmaurice’s body was found in the bedroom of his home on 6 May 1998.
