HEALTH Minister James Reilly will today apologise for the grave failures that led to the deaths of four babies at Portlaoise Hospital.
Government sources have confirmed that an apology will be made to the babies families following the publication of a report into their deaths.
The investigation was carried out by the Department of Health's Chief Medical Officer, Dr Tony Holohan.
Dr Reilly ordered the investigation after the babies deaths were revealed by RTE's 'Primetime' programme.
The Fine Gael Minister described the failure to share reports on the babies’ deaths with their families as “utterly unacceptable”.
An investigation by the HIQA is ongoing.
