FORMER Fianna Fail TD Pat Carey said today that losing his seat in 2011 was the best thing to happen to him and led directly to coming out as an openly gay man earlier this year.

"To be honest, losing my seat in 2011," he told Newstalk in an interview today. "I was always a workaholic...when I was a teacher to."
