Premier Group said yesterday there are enough "green shoots" in the economy to justify bucking the trend and taking on more employees.

The company, which employs 500 people worldwide, specialises in recruiting staff for the financial sector, senior executives and office support.

Chief executive Pat Fitzgerald said the new jobs came after they saw increasing demand from multinationals.

"We are not making it up. We are not spending whatever amount of money if that is not happening," he said.

"It is primarily within the multinational sector, across the sector. Obviously there are new start-ups but it is more normal businesses within the multinational sector, be it replace hiring (or) new positions getting approved."

The 75 positions will be divided between recruitment consultants, a new "transformation team" which will focus on how the business works in the future and internal staff.

The new staff will be based largely at the company's offices in Dublin and Cork, with a number of new positions in Kilkenny, Limerick and Waterford.
