'Reckless' truckers told to slow down

TRUCKERS and coach drivers trying to meet tight deadlines have been warned against reckless tailgating and overtaking on icy single-lane roads.
A number of local radio stations received calls yesterday from motorists alarmed at the number of HGV and coach drivers travelling at excessive speeds, and being far too close to the vehicle in front of them.
AA spokesman Conor Faughnan described this as "crazy behaviour". He said: "The very thought of heavy trucks tailgating cars in these treacherous conditions makes one shudder. It is completely reckless. We would appeal to these drivers to slow down, not to overtake and stay well back from other vehicles."
Mr Faughnan also appealed to employers not to put pressure on their drivers to meet tight delivery deadlines during the current cold snap.
