Rebel TD gets €10,000 Oireachtas position
Former Fianna Fail rebel TD Ned O'Keeffe has been given an Oireachtas post worth almost €10,000 by his party.
He has been selected to chair the Oireachtas joint administrative committee, which deals with the services provided to the members of the Oireachtas.
He replaces Fianna Fail TD John Browne, who was recently named as the chair of the Fianna Fail parliamentary party. He will receive an annual payment of around €9,600 for performing the role. Mr O'Keeffe, who once lost the party whip due to his opposition to Health Minister Mary Harney's policies, said he was looking forward to chairing the committee.
"It's an honour to be made chairman of any Oireachtas committee but the administration committee, is especially important, given the role it plays on the work of the Oireachtas and the impact it can have on Irish democracy," he said.
