RAY D'Arcy's five-year-old daughter helped him propose to his partner Jenny Kelly by getting down on bended knee with him as he popped the question -- for a second time.
The broadcaster (48) gave fans a new year surprise yesterday after revealing on air that the couple were engaged, and that Ms Kelly (39) was expecting their second child.
He said he first popped the question to his partner, a producer and co-presenter on his Today FM morning radio show, last month.
He admitted he initially proposed in his boxer shorts, fresh out of the shower, but later made more of an effort when he proposed again on Christmas Day.
"Yeah, I asked Jenny to marry me over Christmas and she said, 'yeah', which was very nice," he said.
The couple were on air yesterday morning together, where Ms Kelly recounted the proposal.
"It was incredibly romantic. It was the beginning of December and it was after a hard day at the office. I came in and plonked on the couch. Ray was in the shower and the next thing a vision appeared before me in his jocks, and asked for my hand in marriage," Ms Kelly said.
"He asked me to marry him and I laughed and for some reason thought he was joking. And then he went, 'Don't be all coy on me now', or something to that effect."
Ms Kelly and Mr D'Arcy's relationship turned from professional to personal during the course of their time working together. It is understood they have been together for eight or nine years.
They have a five-year-old daughter named Kate, but the former 'Den' presenter also revealed they were preparing for a new arrival in 2012, due in June.
The couple decided to keep the engagement quiet and surprise Ms Kelly's mum, Cathy, on Christmas Day with the good news.
"So, on Christmas Day I came up the stairs and there were lovely petals on the bed. It was gorgeous, and the ring was there and Ray and Kate were both in the room. And Ray proposed again," Ms Kelly said.
"And then I think himself and Kate got down on bended knees and proposed, which was very funny. And then we told my mum, which was great. And my dad would be very happy," she added.
Sadly, her father Michael, a high-profile solicitor, died suddenly last April.
It is understood that no date has yet been set for the wedding.
