A pensioner who endured a horrific rape ordeal after an intruder broke into her home has told a court: "I can't stop screaming inside."

The 74-year-old woman described her rapist as a "phantom" who appeared out of the darkness in her bedroom.

Anthony Hussey (24), from Ardshillane, Sneem, Co Kerry, pleaded guilty to twice raping the pensioner at her home on September 20, 2014. The bar manager will be sentenced next month.

In a moving victim-impact statement, which the woman read out to the court herself, she said that, following the rape, she felt "ashamed, naked, raw and so old, disgusted, betrayed and humiliated."
