It's finally time to put away those umbrellas - albeit briefly.

While heavy rain is set to continue this morning, Met Eireann reports that the skies will begin to clear by the afternoon with bursts of sunny spells.

Temperatures will fall between five to seven degrees by the afternoon today.

"Local flooding is likely this morning in the east and southeast. It will then brighten up and sunny spells will develop nationwide with just a few isolated showers along western coasts," according to the national weather service provider.

Tomorrow will see return of high force wind and rain, particularly in the west of the country.

Temperatures will fall to between 1 and 3 degrees with rain and wind clearing by tomorrow night.
