Radio fans worried about Paul McGrath after live interview with Tubridy
RETIRED footballer Paul McGrath left 2FM listeners concerned after a live radio interview with RTE presenter Ryan Tubridy.
The national broadcaster received a large volume of calls from members of the public yesterday over the welfare of the former Ireland international.
McGrath was contacted by the 2FM team prior to the show at 8am and invited to take part in their regular sports review with Jacqui Hurley.
The interview did not appear in the podcast on RTE's online and mobile listen-back radio player after the programme "for reasons of sensitivity, while RTE established Mr McGrath's form following transmission".
A statement from RTE released to the Irish Independent also explained it was "satisfied" with how Tubridy and his team handled the interview.
"Mr McGrath has a relationship with the Tubridy show and has been on as a guest several times before. (He) sounded to be in good form. As the interview progressed, Ryan Tubridy and the team became concerned and handled the situation accordingly."
Following the interview, Tubridy aired listeners' concerns and expressed his intention to contact McGrath off the air to talk to him further.
The statement added: "RTE takes its responsibility around sensitive matters in live transmission seriously."
