Quickpick of €4 adds up to €5m in Clare Lotto win

THE Banner County is hoping for another 'home win' after a jackpot Lotto ticket was snapped up near one of its tourist hotspots.

Speculation over the identity of the person who bought €5.5m winning ticket in a shop on the Main Street in Quin, Co Clare, has been growing across the county.

The shopkeeper who sold the ticket, Michael Corbett (59), said: "Everyone's thrilled and absolutely delighted. I was a bit worried about who could be phoning me at 8am but it was the rep from the Lotto. It's great news."

The winning ticket was a €4 quick pick bought in the shop on Saturday.

The winning numbers were 1, 3, 8, 11, 14 and 34, with bonus number 40.

"Everyone is hoping its a local winner. But this is a tourist area with a lot of passing trade. Dromoland Castle is just two miles down the road," said Mr Corbett

"People are saying they hope the winner is someone who needs it. Sure, everybody needs it. Nobody's flush anymore," he added.

Publican Claire Titley, who runs the nearby Monkswell Inn, said: "There are cars pulling up outside all morning with so many people wanting to know who's the winner.

"If I was the winner I think I'd leave the pub door open and people could help themselves. Hopefully, we'll be able to have a big party in the pub if the winner is local. What a lovely Christmas present for someone!" she said.

The National Lottery said there was no winner of Saturday's Lotto Plus One draw for €350,000 with the numbers drawn 9, 10, 15, 28, 40, and 41. The bonus was 3.
