Queen's visit is 'historic'
PRESIDENT Mary McAleese has said the first official visit by the Queen of England to our shores is the culmination of a huge investment in peace by both the British and Irish governments, writes Fiona Ellis.
Speaking on the second day of her official state visit to Spain, President McAleese said May -- when both the queen and President Obama are due to visit -- will be an historic month.
Describing how "historically difficult relations between Ireland and Great Britain" have been replaced by "a warm collegial friendly partnership", Mrs McAleese said: "When Her Majesty comes, we will have completed the first full period of devolved power sharing in Northern Ireland -- and that will be something really worth celebrating. It will be an historic moment."
