Pupils hold a protest -- with permission
TWO dozen rebellious students walked out of school yesterday in protest against third-level fee rises -- but only after they got written permission from their parents.
The authorities at Confey Community College in Leixlip, Co Kildare, neatly avoided a confrontation with the students who had announced their protest intentions a few days ago.
Principal Niall Hare had made it clear he was unhappy with their plans and insisted they get written permission from their parents to take part.
Just 23 out of the school's 628 students did so.
"We value the excellent relationships that exist between students and staff in Confey College and our handling of this issue has sought to ensure that no damage is done to these relationships," he said.
The students held the protest at Leinster House.
