Punters tip Trevor for Nobel honour

VETERAN Irish novelist and short story writer William Trevor (left) has shot up in the betting for this year's Nobel Prize in Literature , writes John Spain.

According to Ladbrokes, Trevor was initially 100/1 in the betting, but two weeks ago this was slashed to 10/1 as literary punters piled on the bets.

This week, the odds on Trevor tightened further to 7/1, putting him in second place behind Japanese author Haruki Murakami, the 2/1 favourite.

Ladbrokes said the Irish author appears to be the subject of a long-odds gamble in the race to win this year's prize, which will be announced tomorrow.
