THE Government is to recruit 3,000 new staff into the public and civil service next year under plans to relax the recruitment embargo, writes Colm Kelpie.
With 9,000 public sector workers due to retire in 2012, Public Expenditure Minister Brendan Howlin told the Dail Public Accounts Committee yesterday he wanted to bring in new staff with select skills.
It is understood that recruitment will be focused on frontline areas including teachers and nurses, with a limited number of specialist personnel also being brought into the civil service.
