A PROTEST to show support for new abortion legislation in Ireland has called for legal clarity on medical abortions.
The event, organised by Cork Pro-Choice Alliance, was held at Daunt Square in Cork city centre where about 100 people heard speeches and held pro-choice placards.
Some of the posters and banners read "Pro X – Legislate now" and "No More Tragedies".
Organiser of the event Conor Payne – of the Pro-Choice Alliance – said legislation must be passed to stop future deaths like that of Savita Halappanavar.
"We were told that this couldn't happen in Ireland because of the current laws but it has happened," he said.
