Protester and Irish Water worker injured after meter dispute
Gardai called after residents protested against Irish Water contractors entering housing estate

ONE protester and an Irish Water worker were injured earlier this morning during a protest against the installation of water meters in a Cork city housing estate.
Gardai were called to the scene at Ashbrook Heights early this morning, as residents protested against Irish Water contractors entering the estate at approximately 6.30am.
John O’Donovan from the ‘Campaign Against Home and Water Taxes Group’ was brought to Cork University Hospital shortly after 7.30am
Irish Water confirmed that one of the contractors working at the site was also taken to Cork University Hospital around 10.30am.
It is understood that his injuries are not believed to be serious.
“Irish Water is investigating the actions that resulted in an injury to an Irish Water worker and an alleged injury to a protestor in Ashbrook Heights in Cork this morning.
“Irish Water has notified an Garda Siochana, who are investigating the circumstances of the incident,” a spokesperson added.
