Protest sparks 28 complaints

UP to 28 complaints have been made to the Garda Ombudsman about the behaviour of gardai at last week's massive student protest in Dublin, writes Fergus Black.

Several people were injured after a group of protesters clashed with gardai during the protest on Merrion Row. Three gardai were also hurt and two men in their 20s were arrested and later charged in connection with the scuffles.

Up to 25,000 students attended the rally which was called in protest against plans to increase registration fees at third level.
