GARDAI and An Post have launched separate investigations into alleged "irregularities" at a rural post office, the Irish Independent has learned.
The facility in the south Donegal village of Laghey was closed on July 6.
A notice posted in the window of the premises said it was closed due to "unforeseen circumstances".
The Irish Independent has learned a customer at the post office has lodged a complaint with Ballyshannon gardai alleging that money he lodged in his An Post savings account has gone missing.
An Post is also said to have had "concerns" about certain financial records.
A spokesman for An Post said: "The branch closed due to circumstances beyond our control and that's all we can say at the moment."
