Probe as medic claims assault by colleague
GARDAI and HSE executives are carrying out separate investigations into allegations that a female doctor was assaulted by a male colleague at one of the country's busiest hosptials.
Gardai were called to investigate the alleged incident at Sligo General Hospital on Thursday morning.
Hospital sources have told the Irish Independent that after a heated argument between the two doctors in front of a patient, the female doctor was seen to fall backwards clutching her forehead.
She has claimed that she was assaulted by her colleague. A third doctor was said to have restrained the medic alleged to have carried out the assault.
"The female doctor ended up in casualty being treated for an eye injury," said a source.
A garda spokesperson said: "Gardai were called to Sligo Hospital in connection with an incident involving two staff. Gardai are still investigating the matter."
