Prison chief gets top Justice job
THE former head of the Irish Prison Service (IPS) has been appointed as secretary general of the Department of Justice.
Brian Purcell (53) has been named to succeed Sean Aylward, who is stepping down on August 1, after seven years in the position.
Mr Purcell is following the same route as his predecessor, who also worked as head of the IPS, before taking up the position at the department.
Mr Purcell's tenure at the €230,000-a-year position will also last seven years.
