FORMER RTE Middle East correspondent Richard Crowley is to replace Mark Little as host of 'Prime Time' -- but only once a week.

The Irish Independent understands that Mr Crowley (right) will co-present the programme with Miriam O'Callaghan on Thursday nights only. On Tuesday nights, Ms O'Callaghan will present the current affairs show on her own, or alongside a 'Prime Time' colleague such as Keelin Shanley.

Mark Little left the show in December to pursue a project in digital media.

"I was on air last night without Mark for the first time in about eight years," Ms O'Callaghan said yesterday. "It felt odd without him.

"It's funny; it's like being married, but then, all of a sudden, your husband is gone. So I really miss him.

"But I have known Richard for a long time, and he worked on 'Prime Time' last year, so it is not like a total stranger coming in. I'm looking forward to it."

Mr Crowley will co-host his first show on January 14. Ms O'Callaghan was speaking at the launch of a new fundraising drive by Airtricity to support the building of Ireland's first children's hospice.

The presenter is also patron of the LauraLynn Children's Hospice, which is due to be completed in Leopardstown, Co Dublin, in February of next year.

Airtricity will donate €5 for every ESB customer who switches online at Airtricity.com over the next five weeks.
