BURGLARS are targeting parochial houses while Mass is being celebrated in the local church.
Priests have been told to be vigilant and to step up security after a series of break-ins.
The parochial house in Drangan village near Thurles, Co Tipperary was broken into last weekend, the sixth in the county over recent weeks.
A garda spokesman said the burglars are targeting priests' houses while religious ceremonies are being held in the local churches. Church collections cash is the main target of the raiders.
The garda spokesman appealed to the public to be alert to suspicious activity in the vicinity of their local parochial house during Mass times.
