Prices have fallen by 60pc since commuter boom

The Co Laois town benefited from the commuter boom, but has since seen prices fall by 50-60pc.

Now a three-bedroom semi sells for around €90-€100,000 and it will rent for around €550 per month.

Local agent Tony McInerney says that house prices in the town have found a floor at around these levels.

When asked about the balance of supply and demand he says; "There's good supply and a nice demand, I wouldn't put it stronger than that. This is shown in the time it takes to sell. If it's priced right then an average house will sell within six to eight weeks," he adds.
