Price hikes coming for Australian work visas

MORE than 30,000 people emigrating to seek work in Australia will be hit by visa price hikes over the next year.
Emigrants have one week left to complete all of the paperwork before prices rise, some by up to 33pc from January 1, 2013.
And the skilled graduate visa will go up in price dramatically – by €750, to €1,000, a 300pc increase.
The Australian government recently passed the regulations to increase the Visa Application Charges for various applications, with two of the most popular – the working holiday visa and the skilled worker 457 visa – rising by €68 to €292 and €84 to €364 respectively.
Edwina Shanahan, spokesperson for Visafirst.com, explained that more than 30,000 Irish workers travelled to Australia last year on the various visas due for price hikes including the skilled graduate visas and the temporary work skilled visa.
"It is estimated that even more will travel in 2013 so the price hikes are going to have a major impact," she said.
Ms Shanahan said anyone considering travelling to Australia in search of work should try to lodge their application by December 21 to avoid the costs.
"Once the visa is granted you have a year to enter so you do not need to enter straight away after applying," Ms Shanahan explained.
