PRESIDENT Michael D Higgins paid tribute to students taking an interest in the "recession proof" creative arts sector at the opening of a multi-million euro wing of a music college.
The premises is part of the Brighton and Bristol Institute of Modern Music, or BIMM for short, which opened in Francis Street, Dublin, in September 2011. The new building in the city's Coombe will offer degrees in modern music performance and music business management.
The President said there was the potential for jobs within the sector.
"The interesting side of it all is that across the world, the only sector that never went into recession and that has the highest rate of growth, is what is called the creative industries," Mr Higgins said .
