President Michael D Higgins: my dream for our future
PRESIDENT Michael D Higgins yesterday outlined his dream and his vision for all the people of Ireland.
As wind and rain lashed against Dublin Castle, so too the winds of change blew within its walls, as the ninth President of Ireland spoke of his hopes and our dreams.
In one of the most memorable inauguration speeches, he pledged to dedicate the next seven years of his life to a nation crushed by economic tempests.
He promised: "My presidency will be a presidency of transformation, recognising and building on the many positive initiatives already under way in communities, in the economy and in individual and collective efforts throughout our land.
"A confident people is our hope, a people at ease with itself, a people that grasps the deep meaning of the proverb 'ni neart go cur le cheile' -- our strength lies in our common weal; our social solidarity."
