Preparation of abortion laws moves closer

THE preparation of abortion laws will move a step closer today when an Oireachtas committee agrees its report on hearings on the issue.
But the Oireachtas health committee won't be making any formal recommendations to the Government following its three days of hearings on abortion earlier this month.
The Coalition says Health Minister James Reilly will begin preparing the legislation once the committee has reported.
A 59-page draft report for the Joint Committee on Health and Children, seen by the Irish Independent, merely summarises the various submissions.
The committee, chaired by Fine Gael TD Jerry Buttimer, will now finalise its report.
