'Operation Transformation' presenter Kathryn Thomas helped to launch the event yesterday which hopes to see thousands of people across Ireland greet the dawn that morning.

Participants gather in six locations at 4am while it is still dark and finish the 5km course as the first light brightens the sky.

This symbolic event is open to people of all ages and families with buggies or dogs are also welcome.

Funds raised go to Pieta House, the Suicide Crisis Centre which has helped 4,000 people since it was established by psychologist Joan Freeman in 2006. Register at www.pieta.ie for six events at the Phoenix Park, Dublin, Limerick, Salthill, Galway, Cork city, Ennis, Co Clare and Killarney, Co Kerry.
