Praveen lawyer 'surprised' Savita report to be published this week
THE solicitor for Praveen Halappanavar has said he was “surprised” to hear that the report into the death of Savita Halappanvar would be published within days, despite the fact his client has yet to see the final document.
Gerard O'Donnell said he had been assured that Mr Halappanavar would see the final draft of the report before it was made public.
The young widower had also called for a meeting with Health Minister James Reilly before the report was made public.
However, the clinical review into Ms Halappanavar's death was discussed by Cabinet yesterday with the HSE now likely to publish it later this week.
“We haven't seen the final report yet and would expect that we would be given that opportunity before it is published. It was our understanding that we would receive a copy of it before it went to Cabinet,” said Mr O'Donnell.
Savita Halappanavar (31) died on October 28 last at Galway University Hospital. She was 17 weeks pregnant when she was admitted to the hospital a week earlier suffering a miscarriage.
The inquest concluded on April 19 last and recorded a verdict of death as a result of medical misadventure.
