Potential FG abortion rebel says he will support bill ‘for now’
A POTENTIAL Fine Gael rebel says he will support the abortion legislation when it comes before the Dail tonight but will wait and see if changes can be made before deciding to back its final draft.
The contentious legislation will be voted on at its initial stages today and it will then be sent to the Oireachtas Health Committee, with many in Fine Gael hoping to table amendments.
Mayo TD John O Mahony says he has major issues with the suicide clause in the legislation, and wants to try and make changes before the final draft of the bill comes before the Dail, possibly next week.
"You don't give up until the final whistle," Mr O Mahony said.
