Poll shows 70pc in favour of means-testing child benefit
MEANS testing for child benefit payments is supported by a substantial seven out of 10 members of the public, a new opinion poll shows.
But the poll also shows strong opposition to the introduction of the property tax and water charges.
Given a choice of options for child benefit, the Ipsos / MRBI poll for The Irish Times shows 71pc expressed support for means testing, 18pc want child benefit to continue to be paid at the current rate, eight 8 per cent chose a cut and two per cent had no opinion.
On the property tax, a solid two thirds of the public, 66pc, are against the tax, 28pc are in favour and six per cent had no view.
On the water charges, three in five or 60pc said the charges are a bad idea, 35pc are in support and five per cent having no opinion.
