Wincing Naughten 'slowly on the mend' after bicycle accident
Here's a cautionary note for political enthusiasts in the Midlands and west of the Shannon: if you encounter Communications Minister Denis Naughten in the coming weeks - lay off the back-slapping.
One month since he was knocked off his bicycle on January 2, the Roscommon Independent TD is still struggling to regain full fitness.
He is back at work, but cannot travel by car for long distances, and neither can he sit for long periods at meetings.
Attending the launch of the Government's rural development strategy plans in Ballymahon, Co Longford, he could be seen wincing as a series of supporters and friends warmly greeted him with glad handling and even some backslaps.
"I'm availing of technology to keep in contact with the department and with political business. I have to vary between sitting down, standing, and moving around, as I cannot do any of these things for a long period," he said.
The minister will today host an All Island Civic Dialogue in Boyle to discuss Brexit implications for energy. It will include an overview of the sector and the key Brexit priorities.
