Minister Leo Varadkar has announced that the €5 increase in the State pension will begin from March 10.
He said the €5 increases in other benefits payments will begin in the days that follow.
These include hikes in the widow's pension, carer's benefit, disability allowance and illness benefit.
All of the changes to the payments should be in place by St Patrick's Day, Mr Varadkar said.
The increases come as part of the Social Welfare Bill which is to be published on Thursday.
The hikes in payments were announced in the Budget but Mr Varadkar this afternoon specified the date they would come into effect for the first time.
He said the increases are being implemented "as early as resources allow".
He called on all parties in the Dáil to support these measures and vote for the Social Welfare Bill.
