Warm tributes have been paid to Julie Healy-Rae, the former wife of Kerry Independent TD Jackie Healy-Rae, whose removal ceremony took place yesterday.
Mrs Healy-Rae, from Kilgarvan but who also spent much of her youth in New York before returning to Kerry, died at her home at Scrahan Mews, Killarney, on Monday after battling a short illness.
Crowds of mourners turned out yesterday as Ms Healy-Rae's remains were brought from her house to O'Shea's funeral home.
Among the mourners was her Independent TD son Michael Healy-Rae and her other politician son Danny, a Kerry county councillor, who helped carry the coffin.
Julie Healy-Rae was raised by her adoptive parents in New York where she spent most of her younger years before meeting her husband Jackie. The couple returned to Kerry and raised their family of four sons and two daughters.
In a statement, the family said she would be missed by her loving grandchildren and great grandchildren, sons-in-law, daughters-in-law, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, and her many nieces and nephews as well as friends and neighbours and her two dogs Blondie and Becky.
She reposed at O'Shea's funeral home yesterday evening before removal to St Mary's Cathedral, Killarney.
Requiem Mass is this morning at 10.30am, with burial afterwards in Aghadoe Cemetery.
