Tears and smiles at wake of Minister Zappone's wife
Heartbroken Children's Minister Katherine Zappone smiled as she listened to affectionate stories about her beloved wife at her wake.
More than 100 mourners turned out to pay their respects to Dr Ann Louise Gilligan, who died on Thursday following a short illness.
The ceremony was a celebration of a life lived to its fullest, and one who inspired many others.
The wake was held in An Cosán in Tallaght, Dublin, at a centre founded by the "educator extraordinaire", which has helped the empowerment of women and their children.Friends and loved ones painted vivid and touching pictures of the type of woman Ann Louise was.
Many, including Ms Zappone, sang along with the various songs played during the ceremony, including renditions of 'Moon River' and 'Wind Beneath My Wings'.
"She was composed, humble and certain that everyone could be beautiful," said current CEO of An Cosán, Maura McMahon.
"She had a powerful vision. She had this power to show us the beauty we didn't know we had."
