TD Clare Daly: Gardai failed to investigate 'crimes' involving members of the force
The allegations were made in the Dail this afternoon by Ms Daly
Independent TD Clare Daly has claimed gardai have failed to investigate alleged crimes involving members of the force.
The allegations were made in the Dail this afternoon, under privilege, by Ms Daly.
Addressing Justice Minister Frances Fitzgerald during a debate, Ms Daly alleged that two gardai were involved in the embezzlement of funds over a property deal in Romania.
“They had information to show that garda station fax machines were used in parts of these transactions,” Ms Daly told the Dail.
Ms Daly said the alleged victims got nowhere when they tried to report the incident to the superiors of the gardai involved.
“The Chief Superintendent got back to them and said ‘Yes we’ll investigate your complaint’. That Chief Superintendent moved away, another one came in, they tried to chase it up and they eventually got nowhere,” Daly said.
Ms Daly and fellow Independent TD Mick Wallace have chief critics of the Gardaí and the Department of Justice over the past two and a half years. They were leading supporters of Garda whistleblower Maurice McCabe.
