TAOISEACH Enda Kenny has hit back at suggestions he is not a Conor McGregor fan after questions were raised over his failure to congratulate the UFC superstar following his history making win in New York.
There was speculation over Mr Kenny’s stance on mixed martial arts when he did tweet or issue a statement on Mr McGregor’s success as he regularly sends message of support to other Irish athletes.
Independent.ie asked the Taoiseach’s press office why Mr Kenny had not issued a statement congratulating Mr McGregor after his victory over Eddie Alvarez on Sunday night in Madison Square Garden.
In response, the Taoiseach’s spokesman forwarded this exclusive image of Mr Kenny posing with Mr McGregor and his girlfriend Dee Devlin.
The picture was taken in Dublin Castle on the evening of the official 1916 Easter Rising centenary commemorations.
“They hit it off in a big way,” the Government spokesman insisted.
Mr McGregor made history on Sunday evening by becoming the first UFC fighter to win belts in two weight categories.
