Teachers aren’t the only ones out on the streets today.

Taoiseach Enda Kenny and at least seven ministers found themselves having to down tools and evacuate Government Buildings this afternoon.

A fire alarm in the Department of An Taoiseach forced minsters and staff to leave the building on Merrion Street around midday.

Mr Kenny and his senior officials had to gather at the corner of Merrion Square for more than 20 minutes until the buildings was declared safe.

Among the politicians outside were Minister for Sport Paschal O’Donovan, Minister of State for Financial Services Eoghan Murphy, Minister of State for Gaeltacht Affairs Sean Kyne, Minister of State for Food Andrew Doyle, Minister for Employment Pat Breen, Minister for Defence Paul Kehoe and Minister for European Affairs Dara Murphy.

A government spokesperson said the cause of the alarm was unknown at this stage.

It is the second incident in two days of a fire alarm going off in Government Buildings.
