Stewart may yet throw hat in ring

FORMER RTE presenter and climate change campaigner Duncan Stewart, inset, will decide in the next few days if he will contest the upcoming European elections.
Just over two weeks ago, the well-known environmentalist threatened to walk out of a live radio interview unless he was given 10 minutes to speak. Now he is considering entering politics, but said his family has expressed grave reservations should he throw his hat in the ring.
"I'm at an age that if I don't do something at a more serious level then I'm going to regret it. And I'm not going to be able to look my children in the face if I'm not prepared to put my head above the parapet.
"If I do run, I'm going to run it on a shoestring. It will be my own money, but it's part of my pension; I'm willing to risk that."
But he says, as it stands, the "cons outweigh the pros" to putting his name forward.
"I will have to decide by the end of this week."
He was speaking at the campaign launch of local election candidate Cara Augustenborg in Killiney, south Dublin.
