Special Cabinet meeting expected this week to finalise Budget 2016

A special Cabinet meeting is expected to be held on Thursday morning to finalise next week’s Budget.
A number of ministers still have outstanding requests as the Coalition prepares to launch its final budget before the General Election.
A series of bi-lateral meetings are taking place between ministers in a number of the key spending departments, including Health, Education and Social Protection.
Environment Minister Alan Kelly is also desperate to secure agreement for his rent certainty package ahead of Tuesday’s Budget.
Finance Minister Michael Noonan and Public Expenditure Minister Brendan Howlin are working towards agreeing a €1.5bn budget, split fifty fifty between tax increases and spending cuts.
