Gary Gannon (27), a first-time Independent candidate in Dublin's north inner city, claims that several of his posters have been taken and he's certain it's a deliberate attempt to undermine his campaign by the supporters of another candidate.

Sharon Walton from Cherrard Court, in the north inner city, confronted the driver of a van she saw remove one of his posters from a lamp post outside the Red Parrot Pub on Dorset Street at around 11.30pm on Wednesday.

Mr Gannon, who paid for his campaign through fundraising events organised by family members and friends, says he's very disheartened by his posters going missing.

"We raised around €2,000 and this paid for getting 200 posters printed," he said.
