Sinn Fein has expelled one of its councillors in Cork and a suspended a second following an internal investigation.
Councillor Kieran McCarthy, who is based in Cobh, has been officially expelled from the party, a spokesman confirmed to independent.ie.
A second councillor, Melissa Mullane, has been suspended following the internal review.
Both Ms Mullane and Mr McCarthy have 21 days to appeal their sanctions. Neither representative was contactable this afternoon.
According to the party, a review of the constituency was initiated on foot of a recommendation by the chairman of the Sinn Fein 26 county directorate.
The review was carried out by a panel which included Sinn Fein Cork TD Jonathan O’Brien.
A report went to the Sinn Fein Ard Comhairle yesterday which agreed on the relevant sanctions.
