Independent TD Shane Ross will address the nation this evening on behalf of the Technical Group, following a heated row over who would perform the task.
Sources have confirmed that a number of the group's most outspoken members, including Mick Wallace, Luke 'Ming' Flanagan and Richard Boyd Barrett each insisted they should have been selected at the heated meeting.
Ultimately, it was agreed to put the matter to a vote and given his recent high-profile role with the Public Accounts Committee, Mr Ross won out.
He will speak for two minutes on RTE.
"There were a few interesting candidates who wanted the chance to speak to the public, but they didn't have the numbers," said one source.
Independent TD Finian McGrath said Mr Ross was the overwhelming choice of the majority of the group.
Wicklow TD Stephen Donnelly said it was inevitable that a number of people would want it, given it is a "high-profile gig," but insisted Mr Ross's selection was made in a "very civilised manner".
His address will take place before the 'Six-One News' on RTE. FF leader Micheal Martin is to address the nation after the main evening news at 9.30pm this evening, a party spokesman confirmed.
