Senator Averil Power has claimed her use of Leinster House resources to produce 73,000 calendars is "precisely the point of the Oireachtas printing facility".
The election candidate denied the calendar, which has been distributed across Dublin Bay North, amounts to propaganda.
"People have told me they find them useful," she said. "Previously I ordered a slightly smaller amount and we ran out."
The controversy comes as the Irish Independent learned that independent TD Michael Lowry inquired about getting 85,000 Christmas cards from the Oireachtas printing office.
However, the Tipperary TD says he decided to get his cards printed locally after being told that there was a three-week backlog. Mr Lowry said someone was "causing mischief" after his name was linked to a massive print run.
