REBEL Fine Gael TD Brian Walsh's brother John has been selected to run for the party in next year's local elections, writes Michael Brennan.
It is a sign that the party has not turned against the family following the decision of the Galway West TD to vote against the abortion bill last July.
Mr Walsh said: "I remain a member of Fine Gael and have worked hard for the party in sourcing quality candidates, including John, for next year's local elections."
However, Mr Walsh said that he did not know if his brother's selection was a sign his ban could be lifted.
"At the end of the day, it's a matter for the Taoiseach," he said.
