ODDS on Alex White succeeding Eamon Gilmore as leader of the Labour Party have been cut.

The move comes one day before nominations are due to close.

Arthur Spring is another big mover in the betting with his price slashed from 33/1 to 10/1 following speculation that he is set to throw his hat in the ring.

Joan Burton remains the strong favourite to win the contest with odds of 1/5.

“We may have Joan Burton as a big favourite but we’re still seeing a decent spread of money amongst the frontrunners which would suggest that it’s far from a done deal in the eyes of our punters at least,” a spokesperson for Paddy Power said.

Meanwhile, Paddy Power have closed the betting on its Next Deputy Leader market following relentless support for Alan Kelly.

The Tipperary North TD was backed into 1/7 before the bookmaker pulled the plug.
