Ming is poised for Europe
INDEPENDENT TD Luke 'Ming' Flanagan will declare next week whether he will run in the European elections.
The high-profile independent has not come to a conclusive decision on declaring in the Ireland Midland-North-West constituency. However, encouraging electoral research and constituency difficulties are believed to be influencing him the direction of a tilt at Europe. He is expected to announce a decision on Friday.
If he declares, he will be the most colourful candidate to run for Europe in may years.
Mr Flanagan first came to public attention proposing the legalisation of cannabis. Since becoming a TD for Roscommon-South Leitrim in 2011 he has branched out into other areas, such as the turf cutters' dispute and the garda penalty points crisis.
Research for the Euro elections show FG's Mairead McGuinness and SF's Matt Carthy polling very strongly. Independent MEP Marian Harkin is poised to take the third seat.
