'Lapgate' TD apologises to colleagues
THE Fine Gael TD at the centre of the Lapgate scandal has apologised to colleagues.
Cork East's Tom Barry said sorry to the parliamentary party meeting last night.
Mr Barry last week pulled colleague Aine Collins on to his lap during a late-night Dail sitting on the abortion bill.
Jobs Minister Richard Bruton was criticised at the meeting for claiming that abolishing the Seanad would save €20m a year.
He was taken to task by Fine Gael Seanad leader Maurice Cummins, as well as Seanad whip Paul Coghlan and senators Terry Brennan, Michael Mullins and Martin Conway.
The senators also objected to the fact that Fine Gael launched its campaign even before the Seanad had passed the bill to allow the referendum to be held.
