Taoiseach Enda Kenny has admitted a supplementary budget for health will be needed this year.
Spending in the health sector is expected to overrun by €500m in 2014.
Mr Kenny confirmed there will be an overspend this year.
“There will be a necessity to have a supplementary budget [for health] in 2014,” he said in the Dail.
Health spending has continually been a problem area for the Coalition with continual overruns.
